Making a Lasting Impact
South Rome Alliance is working with members of the community, local businesses and an incredible team of like-minded partners to bring new opportunities in this area of South Rome. We have already achieved remarkable successes with improved access to quality affordable housing, educational services and community wellness programs, and we look forward to facilitating continued growth and development in South Rome.
Mixed Income Housing
- Phase I & II of mixed-income housing has been completed, with a total of 161 units built and fully leased
- Completed construction and sale of 5 affordable single-family homes
- After receiving a second CHIP grant, construction began on 4 more affordable single-family homes, slated for mid-2019 completion
- Funding is in place for 3 more homes to begin construction, for a total of 7 new affordable single-family homes in 2019
Cradle-to-College Education Pipeline
- In partnership with Berry College and Rome City Schools, South Rome Alliance opened an Early Learning Center in South Rome’s Elementary School in 2015, serving 36 Pre-K – 3rd students
- Programs are in development to improve educational outcomes for over 440 elementary school students, Pre-K – 6th
Community Wellness
- South Rome Alliance has partnered with the William Davies Shelter to begin the creation of a 20+ acre vegetable and fruit farm in South Rome
- A mobile market has been established at the William Davies Shelter to sell the produce (using SNAP and Double-SNAP) to residents of South Rome
- The farm will also serve as a job training facility for the shelter residents
- $3 million invested in a new state-of-the-art Boys & Girls Club to serve children of east and south Rome
